Tom Maycock

Tom Maycock serves as the Science Editor for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III Technical Support Unit (TSU). He has more than a decade of experience with editing and producing national and international climate assessments, and his efforts are focused on enhancing the accuracy, clarity, and accessibility of these important and influential reports.

Tom is employed by NC State University’s North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS), which is co-located with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information in Asheville, North Carolina. Tom joined NCICS in October 2012 as an editor with NOAA’s Assessments Technical Support Unit (TSU) and is one of several NOAA TSU staff who are supporting the WGIII TSU.

Tom served as an editor on the Third, Fourth, and Fifth US National Climate Assessments, as well as the North Carolina Climate Science Report. He was also the NOAA TSU’s project manager and editorial lead for the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s Climate and Health Assessment.

Tom was also part of the IPCC Working Group I TSU during the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) cycle, serving as the science editor for both the Special Report on 1.5°C of Global Warming and the WGI contribution to the AR6. He also provided production support and contributed to the design and functionality of the AR6 report websites. Tom also provided document management support for the approval sessions of the 1.5°C report and the WGI, WGII, and WGIII AR6 contributions.

Mr. Maycock holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, with a double major in physics and English literature, and a Master of Liberal Arts and Science degree from the University of North Carolina Asheville.
