As a Science Officer of the IPCC Working Group II Technical Support Unit, Mukesh Gupta supports the IPCC’s Special Report on Cities and Climate Change, with responsibilities including scoping, preparation, review, and quality assurance. Mukesh contributes to scientific planning, reporting, and outreach activities for Working Group II, as well as supporting various IPCC meetings and sessions to facilitate informed decision-making. Furthermore, he provides scientific support in the development of outreach materials related to the activities of the Working Group II to effectively communicate scientific findings to various stakeholders. Mukesh has developed a multidisciplinary outlook by working with academia, NGOs, and corporate in different dimensions of energy, climate change, and wider fields of sustainable development. He has experience and interest in translating research into policy-relevant outputs. Most recently, he served as the Environmental Sciences Program Director and Assistant Professor at the Asian University for Women, Chittagong, Bangladesh. His research interests focus on energy and natural resource policy analysis with specialized experience in climate change & energy for development, and analysis of multiple impacts of climate actions. He has published papers in prestigious journals such as PNAS, Global Sustainability, Ambio, Applied Energy, Energy Research & Social Science, Energy Efficiency, and contributed to the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming and 1.5 C. Mukesh holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Policy from the Central European University, Budapest.
