IPCC
Emilie Vanvyve is the Scientific Adviser to the IPCC Chair for the IPCC seventh assessment cycle hosted by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) in the United Kingdom. Emilie works closely with the IPCC Chair, providing support and advice on latest scientific developments related to climate change and climate action, as well as supporting policy engagement, communication and outreach. This includes the development and delivery of selected cross-cutting IPCC activities such as workshops, liaising with other international scientific bodies, and coordinating activities with the IPCC Secretariat. Emilie will also take a leading role in the Technical Support Unit for the Synthesis Report of the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report.
Emilie has many years of experience working in applied weather and climate science within both private and public sector organisations in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Her research has focused on bridging the gap between climate information and user needs, through application of physical and statistical modelling (including machine learning). It has included work across many sectors including transport, energy, environment, reinsurance and defence. Emilie also contributed to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, specifically working on the Atlas Chapter of the Working Group I contribution and associated Interactive Atlas.
A native of Belgium, Emilie studied physics and obtained a PhD in regional climate modelling of the West African monsoon from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 2007. She subsequently worked at Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants (Cambridge, UK), NCAR Research Applications Laboratory (Boulder, CO, USA) and the Met Office (Exeter, UK).
