Dr. Kate Calvin is currently serving as the Chief Scientist and Senior Climate Advisor at NASA. She was elected Co-Chair of Working Group III in July 2023.   Since 2008, Kate has been an Earth scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) in College Park, Maryland. At JGCRI, she worked on the Global Change Analysis Model and on the Department of Energy’s Energy Exascale Earth System Model. Her research simulates the interaction between global resources, focusing on the interactions between land, water, energy use, and climate through an environmental and socioeconomic lens. In the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report Cycle, she served as a coordinating lead author on the Special Report on Climate Change and Land, a lead author on the WGIII report, and is a section facilitator for the Synthesis Report. She received her doctorate in Management, Science, and Engineering from Stanford University and a bachelor of science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Maryland.
