Christopher Field, Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II, has been awarded the fifth Stephen H. Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication.
Established in honour of renowned scientist Stephen Henry Schneider who died in 2010, the award is given to a natural or social scientist who has made extraordinary scientific contributions and communicated that knowledge to a broad public in a clear and compelling manner.
Chris Field is the founding director of the Global Ecology department of the Carnegie Institute where he has worked since 1984. He is one of the Co-Chairs for the Working Group II of the IPCC which deals with impacts, adaptation and vulnerabilities related to climate change. He has published over 300 publications and is also the Melvin and Joan Lane Professor for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies at Stanford University.
The Schneider Award will be given to Chris Field on 15 December 2015 by Climate One at The Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, USA. Climate One is a special project of the Commonwealth Club that seeks to foster wide-ranging discussions on environmental, energy, and climate change issues, and make these discussions available to a broad range of people around the world.
Field’s other awards include the Heinz Award; the Max Plank Research Award; the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award and the Roger Revelle Medal.
