On Friday 15 June 2012, the IPCC held two side events during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The first was on "Applying science to Sustainable Development - How the IPCC brings science to the policy-makers" and formed part of the Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development organized by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and others. The second was at the UNCSD, at the RioCentro Convention Centre, under the title "Connecting the dots: science, the IPCC and the policy picture". Both events examined the IPCC assessment process in general, and took as particular examples the two recent special reports - the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and climate Change Mitigation (SRREN) and the Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate change Adaptation (SREX).
