  • IPCC launches Special Report on Extreme Weather Events

    The IPCC released its Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX) on 28 March. The report assesses the evidence that climate change has led to changes in climate extremes and the extent to which policies to avoid prepare for, respond to and recover from the risks of disaster can reduce the impact of such events.     David Wratt
    Bob Watson, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change from 1997 to 2002, was knighted in Britain's New Year honours list. The knighthood is the latest in a series of national and international awards he has received.
     
    Sir Bob is currently Chief Scientific Adviser at Britain's environment ministry, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. He is also professor of environmental sciences at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and director of strategic development at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, which is headquartered at UEA.
     
    In New Zealand, David Wratt, a member of the IPCC Bureau, was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order (QSO). Wratt is a Vice-Chair of the IPCC's Working Group I, which assesses the physical science of climate change. He is Chief Scientist (Climate), of New Zealand's National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).
